From a history of working in the fast food industry and eventually running a Central Kitchen supplying this well-known and loved group as well as an equally well-known restaurant franchise back in the 1980’s, an opportunity to start a small business presented itself. It is here back in 1989 that Wholesale Meat Services began from humble beginnings. Initially servicing the local community from a small shop in Kew, Johannesburg, which led to a relationship with a few privately owned butcheries, which by its nature, required a more specific working facility. Fast forward 10 years and in 1999 we moved to our current premises in Kyalami Business Park.

This was the start of a new phase of the business and we concentrated on the wholesale supply of bulk primal meat cuts to the industry which included restaurants, steak houses and butcheries. A strong demand for a Factory Shop was immediately apparent and subsequently a small retail division was established to cater for this demand. This Factory Shop has become a well known and loved part of our business, and continues to provide affordable top quality meat to our loyal customers.

Further expansion around 2002 saw Wholesale Meat Services taking on another director/partner who brought a host of marketing and sales experience, adding value to the company. A restructure around 2007 gave WMS an opportunity to venture into new territory and our product range was substantially revised and improved to include a variety of additional products. Service levels improved and our customer base widened to be more inclusive of the industry as a whole. We supply bulk beef, lamb, pork and chicken products as well as a large variety of portioned and value added products.

WMS currently services the greater Gauteng region, with a small footprint developing in the Western Cape and other provinces.
